This second novel tells the story of the first 1600 miles of the journey, launched in May of 1804 up the Missouri River from its mouth at St. Louis, Missouri. The members of the Corps of Discovery are finding their personal roles in the community as it forms day-by-day. Young Caleb Stuart was recruited for his innate skills and his experience as a hunter. But all that experience barely prepared him for the hunting adventures of the far West!
“RAGE OF THE GRIZZLY,” the second, novel chronicling the evolution of the young hunter, brings to life the extraordinary events of this change. The expedition depended on the skill of its hunters to keep the men fed for the grueling physical work they did every day. Captain Lewis, who loved to quantify everything in his command, estimated that each man needed between five and ten pounds of meat every day just to keep up. It was the expedition hunters who were tasked with this demanding responsibility.
