Hidden behind the cover of “The Ghosts of St. Albans Sanatorium” are true tales of ghostly and ghastly encounters with the denizens of the dusty hallways of the old asylum.
The sanatorium was a repository for the delirious, the delusional, and the demented. Before that it was a boys’ school during a time when hazing was an accepted part of academic life. During these incarnations St. Albans held its long suffering boarders captive within her cold embrace. Held in a grip so tight, that it may have transcended the siren call of death.
Full page photographs by the author freeze the asylum in time. In a time when seasoned paranormal investigators came to St. Albans Sanatorium hoping to engage with its resident ghosts.
Some investigators made a connection with the spectral presences that roam freely there.
These are their stories.
Note from the Author (Excerpt from Introduction): Let me take you on a journey inside one of the most unsung haunted locations in the United State today. It is a journey down dark hallways and into rooms painted by both shadow and light where ghosts talk and phantoms walk.
St. Albans Sanatorium is a destination known by serious paranormal investigators as a place where they can seek answers to the mysteries of what lies beyond death. Some of these investigators were unable to find resolutions for themselves to a number of these age old riddles through their experiences in connecting with the ghosts of the old asylum.
When I initially encountered the energy that is St. Albans Sanatorium, I was on assignment for Ghost Voices Magazine, a now defunct publication with headquarters in the United Kingdom. As I slowly drove up the driveway that first takes you in back and then in front of the building, I noticed a calm about the structure, reminiscent of the long, lazy days of a southern summer.
The kind of summer known for the wafting scent of sweet magnolias, languid bouts of love making, and heat so burning you can see it in energetic waves lifting from asphalt roads. St. Albans Sanatorium was calm on the surface, but just inside her doors vibrated the kind of energy necessary to manifest the energy of ghosts and hide dark secrets and horrors untold.
I was immediately smitten by her energy and knew that one day I would write part of her story, beyond the magazine assignment I was originally sent there to compose. St. Albans Sanatorium at the urging of her ghostly inhabitants called to me as she is wont to do when she wishes a task completed.
I heard her call and answered.
As a writer, I have covered a wealth of preternatural topics for paranormal themed magazines in both the United States and abroad. St. Albans Sanatorium was one of those reportedly haunted locations of paranormal repute. She did not disappoint as the number of ghosts and entities contacted by paranormal investigators there are many and varied. Replete with these ghosts and entities, the old asylum is even known to host its own lady in white.
This young woman who is thought to have been in her late twenties or early thirties when she died, was one of the unfortunates who hung herself in what is known as “the suicide bathroom.” This ghost is known for her attempts at connecting with visiting paranormal investigators and the staff of the sanatorium. She is often seen and heard on the floor where she perished. In addition, she is also reported by eye witnesses as a lady in white ascending the grand staircase.
This book provides the only record of the reported hauntings that occur within the buildings and grounds of St. Albans Sanatorium. If you wish to learn more about this defunct asylum and the ghosts that languish within her walls, this is the book for you!
